The engineering design classes at Boston University (for mechanical engineers) gradually build toward the Senior Design Capstone Experience, a year long design project that caps off my college engineering degree. As a sophomore, I took a few classes in design which taught me the fundamentals of the design process, how to work in teams, how to model, prototype, test, manufacture, manage time and money. As a junior, I got a chance to apply all of these skills in this class, "ME360 - Product Design". This class is a hands-on project based class where throughout the course, I work on four major projects with a small group with the goal of preparing for the type of work I will be doing for my senior design project. Intermittently, I also participate in mini design challenges where I have to create hand sketches of products that can be used to solve a problem at hand.
